Free School Meals Project 2024 | Maasailand

For the children of Maasailand, a school meal is not just a meal—it is survival. In a place where extreme poverty weighs heavily on families, many children rely on these meals as their only source of food for the day. Without them, hunger becomes more than an ache; it becomes a barrier to learning, to growth, and to hope. Almost 2 years ago we entered into one of most important partnerships of our lives with Carina, to feed 300 children living in the poorest part of the region. It has been so hard, emotional, intense and one of the best things we’ve ever agreed to.

Thanks to the unwavering generosity of @carina_gurtner gurtner and her family, this project has been able to continue into 2024. Their support ensures that these children, who live in circumstances most of us cannot imagine, receive the nourishment they desperately need to keep attending school and to face another day.

This project is not about comfort; it is about necessity. It is about giving children the strength to learn when they would otherwise be too weak, and the dignity of being seen and cared for when the world so often forgets them.

To Carina and her family, and to all who support this work—your kindness means everything. It is the difference between hunger and survival, between despair and a glimmer of possibility.

As we move into 2024, we carry the weight of this responsibility with humility, knowing that each meal served is a lifeline to a child who deserves so much more.

And to our local teachers and leaders—you are the roots, the unwavering foundation that grounds this vision in possibility and purpose.

As the sun sets on this year, we hold gratitude for every hand extended, every smile shared, and every moment spent building a future brighter than yesterday. The work is not easy, but it is sacred, and together, we move forward with the promise of what is yet to come.

Since day one in management, Careen has transformed our ground operations in Arusha with her exceptional organizational skills, sharp administrative acumen, and unparalleled ability to connect with people and her ability to completely calm, never shaken. Her leadership has elevated our coordination, improved our services, and strengthened the foundation of what we do.

Careen represents the future of empowered Tanzanian women breaking barriers and leading with strength and grace. 🌍💪
